Nestled in the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods, Boulder Junction has introduced The Glide—an enchanting ice skating ribbon that brings a long-awaited experience to the state. At 0.8 miles long, this scenic trail through snow-draped pines offers a fresh and exciting way to embrace winter, setting it apart as a must-visit destination for skaters of all ages. As a family that lives for snow-filled adventures, we couldn’t wait to lace up our skates and experience this Wisconsin Northwoods treasure.

Wisconsin’s Premier Skating Trail

Unlike traditional skating rinks, The Glide is a meandering ice trail that takes you on a peaceful journey through a snow-covered forest path. It’s wide enough for families and friends to skate side by side, and the solar-powered lights lining the trail make evening skates especially magical.

The trail is smooth and meticulously maintained, thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers and regular Zamboni grooming. When we visited, the ice was flawless, making it easy to see why this ribbon has become such a beloved winter attraction—it combines the joy of skating with the serene beauty of the Northwoods.

Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just starting out, The Glide’s gentle curves and tranquil setting make it accessible and fun for everyone.

Refueling After Your Skate

After a few laps on the trail, we stopped at Boulder Junction Coffee Company to warm up. Their coffee and hot chocolate were just what we needed, and the treats were the cherry on top. The cinnamon roll was gooey and delightful, while the gluten-free snicker-doodle cookie was a hit with everyone.

If you’re looking for something more substantial, head over to The Beer Bar for classic Northwoods comfort food. Their cheese curds are outstanding—crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and packed with the kind of flavor you only find in Wisconsin.
