Renting a pontoon boat is one of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of Door County. A leisure sightseeing tour by boat will give you a different vantage point on some of the peninsula’s beautiful sights.
Our recommendation is to book a pontoon rental from Door County Boats in Sister Bay. They have a great fleet of boats that can accommodate small groups of up to as many as 15. Their pontoon boats are in great condition and they offer better add-ons than many of the other places to rent in Door County, including tubes. I highly recommend adding on a tube rental to pull from the back of the pontoon boat.
Sister Bay is a perfect location to depart on a leisurely cruise as well. There are beautiful homes to view along the coast north and south of Sister Bay. Our recommendation is to cruise over to Horseshoe Island. This is a perfect place to drop the anchor in the inlet of the island for some swimming or to take a lunch break. Our family loves to swim to Horseshoe Island, I recommend water shoes if you have them as the shore is rocky.
After your break at Horseshoe Island, we often sail further west and south to get a view of the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse before cruising back northeast along the bluffs of Peninsula State Park. You get beautiful views of the rock cliffs and of the Eagle Tower. From there we do a brief tour of Ephraim Harbor.
Lastly, we continue back in the direction of Sister Bay and stop in the little cove near Sister Bluffs where there is a nice Pebble Beach. This cove used to be home to Fred & Fuzzy’s. We often toss the anchor here as well and swim over to the pebble beach. If there is a chop on the bay this is a perfect place to tube as the water is typically calmer here.
