Planning your adventure on the Elroy-Sparta State Bike Trail and it’s iconic Train Tunnels? Here’s what you need to know:

Bike Rentals and Shuttle Service: Speed’s Bicycle Shop in Sparta offers quality bike rentals and shuttle services to your desired starting point along the trail as a one-way ride is recommended.

Accommodations: Consider camping the night before to get an early start. We have camped at the Sparta DNR Campground which less than a mile from Speed’s Bike Shop. Alternatively, explore the variety of Airbnbs available in the area to suit your comfort needs. Hit us up for our recommendation.

Timing: Allocate sufficient time for your ride, especially if you plan to traverse all three tunnels. The trail spans over 30 miles, and the tunnels, particularly Tunnel 3, require a slower pace due to darkness and wet conditions.
Essential Gear: The tunnels are unlit and can be quite dark and damp. Ensure you pack a strong headlamp and rain gear to navigate these sections safely.

🌟 New for 2025! Looking for things to do in Wisconsin this winter? Skating has never been better than at The Glide, located at Winter Park in the charming town of Boulder Junction. ❄️⛸️

This 0.8-mile skating ribbon winds through a peaceful Northwoods forest, with solar-powered lights adding a special touch to evening skates. It’s a fun activity for families, couples, or anyone who loves the outdoors in winter.

Open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (weather-dependent), The Glide is perfect for a day of fun or a magical evening skate. Our recommendation is to bring your own skates, but free loaner skates are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited selection. Rentals are also available at Coontail in town.

There’s a small sledding hill on-site, perfect for young kids, and a cozy warming shelter to take breaks from the cold. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture idyllic shots of the trail winding through the snowy woods!
